Coppola is a family name that has long been a staple of the Western New York business community. Beginning with a lumber company founded in Buffalo, New York in 1958, the family initially built its reputation within the building materials industry. In the mid-1960s, following a major fire that severely damaged the company’s lumber yard, the older children joined the business to help rebuild operations. The company ultimately recovered, expanded, and diversified over time. As the family’s business interests evolved, particularly into stock and commodity trading and speculation, so too did its expertise and specialization. Eventually, the family’s marketable securities portfolio exceeded the asset size of the original lumber company, further deepening the family’s involvement in financial markets and speculation. This environment inspired the grandson, James Philip Coppola III, the Managing Partner of Baron Point Financial Group, who developed an early interest in the securities industry, trading, fund management and later as a dealmaker following his life’s long passion for institutional investing.
